Brunswick
Brunswick Valley's volunteer rescue squad — first on scene for road crashes, cliffs, floods and storms. Every hour, every day of the year.
Our volunteers train fortnightly to State Rescue Board standards — ready for whatever the Shire throws at them.

Freeing people trapped in cars and trucks with hydraulic tools and steady hands.

Over cliffs and embankments, through swiftwater, storms and floods.

Lighting scenes for Police, supporting NSW Ambulance and providing search and rescue to our community.
In 1977, a fatal crash on the Brunswick River bridge showed our community it needed rescuers of its own. Nearly fifty years on, we're the accredited primary rescue unit for the Byron Shire — a cross-section of locals who train fortnightly and answer the call whenever it comes.
We're one squad in a family of more than 1,600 VRA Rescue NSW volunteers — but the faces under the helmets are your neighbours.

You don't need to be a paramedic or a firefighter. You need to be willing to turn up, learn, and stand beside your community. We provide the training, the gear and the team.
We raise thousands every year to keep our trucks fuelled and our equipment ready. A one-off gift, a monthly pledge or a local sponsorship keeps us on the road for the next call.
